Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for fifth of May) is a celebration held on the 5th of May in commemoration of the unlikely victory of the Mexican Army over the French forces in "The Battle of Puebla". Cinco de Mayo is also celebrated in commemoration of the cause of freedom and democracy during the early years of the American Civil War and today the celebration is observed as being part of the Mexican heritage and pride. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the United States and regionally in Mexico, particularly in Puebla where the battle was held during the American Civil War.
