Plot

After Manny does a valiant rescue by saving Mr. Lopart from falling off the building, Kelly calls the Fire Dept. as Chief Eduardo is impressed by Manny’s quick skills in saving Mr. Lopart’s life, Kelly and the tools team up in an emergency as Chief Eduardo makes Manny and Kelly as volunteer firefighters, but the crew where struggling in their training as the tools felt that firefighting is too dangerous for them as they also learned of Mr. Lopart's so-called "bigger is better" idea for his candy store.

Trivia

  • Due to this special being about firefighters, Mr. Lopart's habit of getting himself in danger while trying to carry out his "bigger is better" idea to advertise his candy store throughout the special is quite similar to Norman Price from Fireman Sam, who is Pontypandy's resident prankster, whose schemes always get him and the residents of Pontypandy in trouble, especially with the CGI Series (Series 8 of which premiered six months before this special), in which he is more mischevious and thus, always pulling dangerous schemes, such as getting himself stuck down a well while trying to climb down there in order to get the coins from the bottom in the episode Pontypandy Extreme or having James be his stunt double when filming a movie, which included strapping James to a chair, which leads to James getting trapped in Joe Sparkes' Garage after he sets some oil cans ablaze while trying to free himself by burning the ropes with a magnifying glass in the episode Spy Games (which aired three years after Handy Manny ended), as opposed to innocent pranks in like in the stop-motion series, especially in Series 5, where his pranks were planned out and his accidents were the results of poorly planned ideas instead of outrageous stunts.
